Director of Philanthropic Development

Full Time | Austin, TX Preferred

IMI has built relationships with some of the most respected foundations in the country and raised significant philanthropic support. Our programs fit genuine needs at a moment when major institutions are rethinking what public media looks like. The Director of Philanthropic Development is responsible for sustaining that momentum and building the funding base that takes IMI to its next chapter.

This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of philanthropy and cultural change: helping shape how large institutions think about the future of independent media, science communication, and the internet as public infrastructure.

You will:

  • Maintain and deepen IMI's existing foundation relationships, ensuring funders are informed, engaged, and deepening their investment

  • Identify and cultivate new foundation, institutional, and government funders

  • Lead grant writing, reporting, and all funder communications

  • Develop and execute a fundraising strategy in collaboration with IMI leadership

  • Build the development infrastructure (processes, systems, and strategy) that positions IMI for long-term philanthropic growth

What We're Looking For

  • 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit development, foundation relations, or grant writing

  • Track record of managing funder relationships and a grants portfolio

  • Strong writing skills — you can translate complex, ambitious work into compelling proposals and reports

  • Strategic thinker who wants to build a development function, not just execute within one

  • Comfortable working closely with founders in a small, fast-moving organization

  • Genuine interest in independent media, creator culture, science communication, or the future of public media

Compensation & Details

  • Salary: $80,000+, commensurate with experience

  • Based in Austin, TX preferred. Relocation assistance available. Remote considered for the right candidate.

  • PTO and sick days

IMI is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to building a team that reflects the diversity of the creators we serve.
