Director of Festival Production
Full Time | Austin, TX
IMI produces events and experiences that bring the independent creator world together. The Director of Festival Production owns IMI's event production year-round: from IMI Fest, our annual multi-day festival, to IMI's presence at major creator and film events throughout the year. This is a role for someone who takes creative and programming ideas and makes them actually happen in the room, on stage, and on camera. It demands creative judgment, relentless follow-through, and the ability to build and manage the team of contractors and collaborators needed to deliver.
At IMI Fest you will:
Oversee the programming of all four festival days: Camp IMI (our emerging creator retreat), Baker Day (creator workshops), and two Festival Days (our public event) including the IMI Awards Dinner
Build and own the run of show across all festival days
Work directly with creators who are participating on stage or showing work, collaborating with them to develop their involvement and ensuring they're prepared and set up for success
Solicit and curate selections for the Creators Studio gallery space and for our screenings program
Own the spatial and visual design of the festival environment — room design, signage, and installations — working with a production designer or relevant contractors to execute
Year-round you will:
Produce IMI's presence at major creator and film events (including SXSW, Tribeca, and Open Sauce)
Collaborate with the Director of Creator Relations to bring the same production standards to smaller-scale gatherings and parties
What We're Looking For
Proven experience producing live events, festivals, or multi-day programming. You know how to build a run of show and execute it under pressure
A genuine fan of independent online media. You watch YouTube, you have channels you love, and you want to showcase the best creators working today
Deep respect for creators as the creative and business leads of their own work
Experience working directly with talent or public figures to develop their on-stage participation. You know how to earn trust quickly and bring out the best in people
A curatorial eye: you can solicit, evaluate, and select work for a screenings program or gallery space with a clear and confident point of view
High standards for the in-person and on-camera experience. You notice when something is off and you do something about it
Able to build and manage a team of contractors and freelancers to deliver across a complex event
Calm under pressure: you don't let the chaos show
