Building a new public media ecosystem for the 21st century

Independent Media Initiative

You have a choice in what you watch.

The sun is rising for creators.

What are we doing?

The media landscape has completely changed over the last 15 years. People tune in to YouTube and podcasts for entertainment, education, and news more than any other source. Without the gatekeepers of traditional media, who decides what we watch and what our children watch? Should we let the YouTube and TikTok algorithms dictate our fates? Or can we take control of our media landscape and put our thumb on the scale for thoughtful, respectful, and inspiring work?

IMI is building a new public media ecosystem that recognizes and celebrates the exceptional independent media creators who make the digital landscape a little brighter. Learn more about our mission here.
